About

CultureStrike empowers artists to dream big, disrupt the status quo, and envision a truly just world rooted in shared humanity.  As risk-takers with the creative audacity to think beyond today's boxes, artists play a powerful role in inciting conversations, inventing new ways of thinking, and redefining the limits of what's possible.  That’s why we believe cultural work is key to creating systemic change.

Our work focuses on three key areas:

  1. Visionary Strategy
As an arts-based strategy hub, our approach is proactive, visionary, and committed to long-term cultural change.  Rather than reacting to mainstream points of view, we devise and mobilize our own images, sounds, and stories narratives that shift how people think and feel.

  2. New Narratives
Operating through a migrant lens and across various issues, we invest in creative work that highlights the complexity, nuance, and beauty of communities who are often rendered criminal or invisible.  Art has the power to move audiences in ways that movement messaging can’t—through new narratives that relate to and transform their own experiences.

  3. Cultivating Artists
Our work prioritizes sustaining migrant artists, women artists and artists of color with the opportunities and resources needed to do what they do best, whether they’re writers, filmmakers, musicians, dancers, performers, visual artists, or work across media.  We also challenge artists to consider how their work can be part of something bigger, sparking relationships among artists and with organizers, educators, and other thinkers.

Since our founding in 2011, we have connected a national network of 200+ socially engaged artists, provided space and funding for professional and creative development, developed shared strategy with movement groups, and spearheaded dozens of events and campaigns that have resonated in local venues, social media, and the halls of power.  As we grow, we continue to develop new projects that amplify our strategy and inspire new artists and audiences with visions of social justice.

A Message from CultureStrike Executive Director Sham-e-Ali Nayeem

"It is through art and culture that we are able to shift our collective consciousness and transform this grim political climate we find ourselves in. There is a significant cost our communities pay when we are not the ones uplifting our own truths. We have a tremendous opportunity to strengthen our creative alliances and shift cultural narratives that harm us. I invite us all to imagine the kind of world we wish to see and assert the safety and dignity of our communities." Donate Now!
